Update, Oct. 23: Here’s where Jatori Williams’ recruitment stands a week after the decommitment, with a correction to the original story.
- CONFIRMED, ranking (correction): 247Sports ranks him No. 96 nationally, No. 5 among interior offensive linemen and No. 3 in Alabama, per his 247Sports profile. The “top-115” figure we first ran matched the 247Sports Composite (No. 114), not 247Sports’ own ranking. We fixed it below.
- REPORTED, Georgia visit already happened: He visited Georgia for the Auburn game in Athens on Oct. 17, per UGA Wire.
- REPORTED, official visits set: He has set official visits to Alabama, Auburn, Florida State and Georgia, per 247Sports. His 247Sports profile lists Florida State on Oct. 31, Auburn on Nov. 7 and Georgia on Nov. 14 (the Missouri game, per 247Sports). It does not list an Alabama date yet.
- REPORTED, sources disagree on Miami: UGA Wire reports Miami is no longer in his top schools and that his top four is Georgia, Auburn, Florida State and Alabama. 247Sports reports Miami “is still in play” and that he remains open to hearing out the Hurricanes. We’re not calling that one either way.
- REPORTED, timing: UGA Wire reports he is likely to decide before the early signing period in December (Dec. 2-4). National Signing Day is in February.
Original story, Oct. 15, follows (with the ranking and signing-date fixes noted above).
CONFIRMED: the decommitment, announced by the player. Where he lands is reported or opinion, and labeled below.
The pot just got stirred in Alabama’s backyard.
Jatori Williams, a four-star offensive lineman from Phenix City (Ala.) Central in the 2027 class, announced Tuesday on social media that he is decommitting from Miami. 247Sports ranks him No. 96 nationally.
“I still have a lot of respect for Miami and am keeping that door open.”
Jatori Williams, in his decommitment post, as quoted by 247Sports
Williams pledged to the Hurricanes in May. He had committed to Alabama earlier in the cycle before reopening his recruitment. Now, per 247Sports, his list is Miami, Auburn, Alabama, Georgia and Florida State, and a source close to his recruitment says no new schools have been added.
What’s next (REPORTED): Georgia is expected to get him on campus this weekend, according to 247Sports and Field Street Forum. Auburn, where he took an unofficial visit on Sept. 19, is reportedly pushing hard to keep him close to home, and a second in-season trip to the Plains is possible. 247Sports notes there are conflicting views on whether he ends up back at Miami and whether Auburn is the main threat. Roundtable reports he plans to make a final decision before the early signing period in December. (National Signing Day is in February.)
Why SEC fans should care: Three of the five schools on his list (Auburn, Alabama and Georgia) are in this league, and offensive linemen decide whether a team wins in November. Nobody in the SEC has landed him yet.
The gumbo take (TAKE, not news): If he picks the SEC, he’ll be the biggest in-state prize Auburn and Alabama have scrapped over this fall. Right now this recruitment is still simmering, and nobody’s taking the lid off yet. We’ll keep an eye on the pot.
