Player of the Week

Sabine Line edition: games of Friday, Oct. 23, 2026

LOUISIANA
By T-Rohn
Two states, one river, and plenty of Friday night production on both banks. Friday and Saturday games only. Stats below are reported by the American Press and are unofficial until the league publishes box scores.

Mais, the Sabine is the only river around that has to listen to both banks argue about whose boudin is better. At press time, the river had declined to comment.

Lagniappe: October on the Sabine line means “fall weather,” which here is defined as any Friday night you can’t see your breath but you can see the humidity.

How we pick

Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas, Friday and Saturday games. Stats come only from published sources (American Press, Beaumont Enterprise, SETXsports, MaxPreps, KOGT, KPLC, school and coach posts). Coaches: if we got a number wrong or missed a big night, email hello@gridirongumbo.com with the box score.

Thursday football is a fine tradition, cher. Around here, Thursday is for making groceries so Friday can have a tailgate.

Pass a good time, y’all. The Sabine still has no comment.
