Some homecomings come with a casserole. Isaiah Horton’s comes with a scouting report from his own father.

The Texas A&M graduate student receiver, who transferred in from Alabama, goes back to face the Tide on Saturday when the Aggies visit No. 13 Alabama (2:30 p.m. CT, ABC). Alabama is a 13.5-point favorite at DraftKings as of Oct. 22, per VegasInsider, despite a two-game skid capped by a 26-10 loss at Tennessee.

The family conversation started after A&M’s 41-0 win over The Citadel. Former Aggies safety Jordan Pugh flagged two Horton drops on his “Cover 2 with Jordan Pugh” podcast, and Horton’s father, Allen Horton, weighed in, per Aggies Wire. The key line: “Told him he needs to show resiliency real quick and help his QB and team over these next tough few weeks of the season.”

Through seven games, Horton has 20 catches for 280 yards and three touchdowns on 46 targets, according to the report. That is 20 of 46 targets (43.5%).

Here’s the thing, cher: the timing could hardly be better for a bounce-back. Alabama’s pass defense ranks 101st nationally, per Aggies Wire. That’s not a secondary, that’s an open-door policy. If there was ever a week for a receiver to get the roux right, it’s against his old team, in his old stadium, with Dad watching closer than a crawfish-boil timer.

Down here we call that a pot ready to boil. Bama needs to stop a slide, A&M wants a statement road win, and one receiver gets a chance to answer every question at once in front of folks who used to cheer for him.

Gumbo take: The best way to answer your daddy is with your hands. Catch the ball Saturday and this whole thing turns into a good family story.

Correction (Oct. 22, 2026): An earlier version of this story called Isaiah Horton a senior. He is a graduate student. We also updated the Alabama line to the latest VegasInsider listing.
