Brief History
- Orangefield grew up around the "Orange Oil Field" after the 1913 Bland well strike, and Orangefield ISD serves the community.[3]
- F. L. McClain Stadium opened in 1954 and is named for Forrest Lee "Mac" McClain, OFISD principal from 1957 and superintendent from 1963 to 1988, who helped build it.[4]
- The Bobcats have made 25 playoff appearances, per Dave Campbell's Texas Football.[2]
Location
F. L. McClain Stadium
7745 Sand Bar Rd., Orangefield, TX 77630 (school: 10058 FM 105)[5]
Fun Facts
- The first big well, the Bland, was nicknamed "Old Faithful" because it gushed like the geyser every 50 minutes.[3]
- In 1923 much of the business district burned after a worker threw what he thought was a bucket of water, but was gasoline, on a tailor-shop fire.[3]
- A second oil boom in 1937 eased the Depression for many Orangefield families.[3]
- Rice farms here date to possibly 1888, before oil changed everything.[3]

T-Rohn’s Comedian Corner
Orangefield had a well called Old Faithful that gushed every 50 minutes. Y'all, that's more dependable than any Texas weatherman.
In Orangefield, rule number one since 1923: check the bucket before you throw it on the fire. Rule two: it's never too hot for brisket.
Orangefield is so Texas, the Bobcats' tailgate has a Whataburger cup in every cup holder and a pickup in every parking spot.
