Brief History

  • West Orange High and Lutcher Stark High consolidated in 1977-78, and students picked new colors and a new mascot: the Blue and Silver Mustangs. The first WO-S class graduated in 1978.[2]
  • The Mustangs won the Texas 4A Division II state title in 2015 (22-3 over Celina) and again in 2016 (24-6 over Sweetwater), their third and fourth state football championships.[2]
  • Home games are at Dan R. Hooks Stadium, named for longtime coach and athletic director Dan Hooks; it opened in 1964 and seats about 9,000.[3]

Location

Dan R. Hooks Stadium, Leroy Breedlove Field
1619 Newton St., West Orange, TX 77630 (school: 1400 Newton Ave.)[3]

Fun Facts

  • The school motto is "Are You Giving 112% Today?"[2]
  • The field is named for Leroy Breedlove, a longtime subvarsity coach; turf and a video board arrived in 2019.[3]
  • Before the merger, West Orange were the Purple and White Chiefs and Lutcher Stark were the Orange and Black Tigers.[2]
  • West Orange-Stark is the only high school in West Orange-Cove CISD.[2]

Famous Alumni

  • Earl Thomas – 7-time Pro Bowl safety, Super Bowl XLVIII champion with Seattle[4]

T-Rohn’s Comedian Corner

West Orange-Stark's motto asks, “Are You Giving 112% Today?” Math teachers will tell you 100% is the max. Mustang fans will tell you the extra 12% is what it takes to finish a Friday night in Orange County humidity.

When West Orange and Lutcher Stark merged in 1977, they traded purple, orange and black for blue and silver. One set of colors, zero arguments over whose old colors to keep. Smart move, y'all.
